You were created a relational being. You were built for relationships. God designed you to love.
Back in the 1990’s, I led a week of church camp. One of the threads of the week was the need for healthy physical touches, primarily hugs. The research we cited revealed that humans need eight (8) meaningful, healthy touches to survive and twelve (12) to thrive.
Ever since then, my wife Beth has reminded me of how necessary hugs are to her health. During this time of physical distancing, I have been keenly aware of this; I am working hard to give and receive these healthy touches!

First, we are to love God with everything we are and have. So, in this time of quarantine, let me encourage you to use this time to connect with God. Leverage the slow down to spend more time living into His presence. Discover what it means to abide in Christ. Read scripture about being adopted by God and what it is to be co-heirs with Jesus.
Second, we are to love our neighbor as ourself. Even though the times call for physical distancing, use this time to connect with your immediate family. Give them good healthy physical touch. Also, connect with your family, friends, and neighbors online. Beth and I are spending time with our children and grandchild via video calls. We have also set up weekly video group chats with our parents and siblings. We are doing meetings with our leadership team online. We continue to host our LIFE Groups virtually as well.
