Peace in Uncertain Times

The other day, I stood on my deck and experienced the many signs of spring. A cardinal and a robin sang their respective songs. The crocus flowers were blooming as were the daffodils. In the energy of spring, there was a peace, a calm.

While the natural world is bursting with life, the world of humanity is exploding in panic: the unknown virus, the unstable economy, and the uncertain future. Jesus speaks into our current situation in Luke 12:22-37.

He tells us, “Do not worry about your life…” This is contrary to the world’s way. The world runs after all the necessities of life. They hoard things like toilet tissue, soap and sanitizers. But in the Kingdom of God “your Father knows that you need these things.” Jesus tells us to “seek His kingdom and these things will be given to you as well.”

Tracy, are you telling us to trust God for toilet tissue? Yes! I am not saying don’t buy what you need. I am saying, you may have to get creative (although don’t put things down the toilet that do not dissolve in water like some are doing and clogging up the sewer systems).

God takes care of the birds and flowers. Jesus says that you are much more valuable than these. He certainly can and will take care of you. He will provide. Then He goes on to say, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

Our crucified King calls us to a crucified life, so we can experience the resurrected life in the Kingdom of God. As adopted children we can love others knowing our earthly wealth is being transferred into heavenly treasure. “For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.”

Don’t think that the heavenly treasure is only for life after death. You can enjoy it now. When you let go of earthly holdings, you are released from their hold on you. Then and only then are you free to experience all the heavenly blessing in Christ that are available to you now (see Ephesians 1:3-14)!

In closing let me say, a generous and grateful heart is the Kingdom way and leads to the Kingdom blessings God has already given you in Christ.
